Mrs. Churchill’s Plea For Aid For Russia

QUEBEC, August 22. Mrs. Churchill, broadcasting to the United Kingdom, called on Britain to make “Aid for Russia flag days which are starting on August 24, the occasion of thankoffering to Russia—Russia who stood in the breach while Britain and America were binding up armies and armadas. She needs all we can give and has earned the right to our help.” Previous Response Mrs. Churchill, in her broadcast from Quebec, said she made it her aim nearly two years ago to translate into practical shape those deep emotions of admiration, gratitude and sympathy with the Russian Allies by wmch the people of Britain and the Empire had been stirred. The public response had been so great that the difficulty had been to obtain the medical supplies for which the funds had been subscribed. They were now .engaged in fulfilling the latest list of Russian needs, containing 101 items, including 200.000 bottles of insulin, 100 tons of aspirin and 10.000 boxes of X-ray films. Stimson Joins Parley

Mr. Stimson will arrive in Quebec today. The Chinese Foreign Minister (Dr. T. V. Soong) is also expected to join the conference soon, said the President’s secretary (Mr. Stephen Early). The Associated Press says that ihe reason for Mr. Stimson’s belated arrival has not been disclosed, also no clue why Dr. Soong might come from Washington. The correspondent adds that the conference apparently has completed a blueprint for victory. This is emphasised by the fact that Mr. Roosevelt spent the afternoon sight seeing after discussing war transport problems with Mr. Churchill and the British Transport Minister (Mr. Leathers). The Chinese Foreign Minister (Dr. Soong) and the United States Secretary for War (Mr. H. L. Stimson) have arrived in Quebec today to participate in war discussions. Mr. Churchill and Mr. Roosevelt last night worked together until 3 a.m. Broadcasting from Quebec tonight. Mrs. Roosevelt paid a striking tribute to Russia’s heroism and endurance. Speaking on behalf of the aid to Russia flag days which arc starting in London this week, she said: “We must never forget, nor were we likely to forget the heroic part played by the people of Russia in the tremendous struggle to prevent civilisation being' overwhelmed by new forces of darkness."
