Freedom In Sicily
LONDON, August 21. Allied Military Government headquarters in Sicily has announced that important steps are being taken to free the people from Fascist tyranny by restoration of legal rights and abolition of levies and contributions that lined Fascists’ pockets. Fair trials are replacing “star chamber” proceedings. An Allied proclamation says that there shall be no imprisonment without fair trial and no detention'without prompt trial. Mussolini's secret police have been demobilised throughout the island.
