Kaitaia Unbeaten In Mangonui Rugby
Tim Mangonui Rugby Union completed die second round- of its competition on Saturday., Conditions were ideal and a good crowd of spectators watched Kaitaia outpoint the Kaitaia Home Guard team by 17 points to nil. Kaitaia went through both rounds unbeaten, although they failed to defeat Air Force, drawing oil belli occasions. These two teams will meet again next Saturday. Home Guard, after their success against Air Force, were expected to lufly extend Kaitaia, but, playing a man short, failed |to cope with the best team Kaitaia lias fielded this season. Territorially the Guardsmen held their own. but the super{ior speed of Jameson and Co. allowed them to finish off with bright passing ! movements. Try-getters for Kaitaia were j Wild, Marsh. Latimer. Jameson and Ben I Harrison, with brother Iki converting the j last I Mr. Sowter was referee, j Air Force, at Awanui. defeated Awanui Iby 14 points to three after a hard and j fast contest. The scorers for the winners were Haukuruki, two tries, Allen and i Tapp, one each, with Hawthorn converting j Tapp’s try. Atkinson scored for Awanui. | Mr. Kirkpatrick refereed. I During the week three Air Force players, j Byford. Turner and Andrews, were | selected to take part in the Air Force j trials at Auckland to select a North Island team against the South.
