U.S. Planes In China
(Roc. 11 t in.) CHUNGKING. An?;. 22. Mitchell bombers, in a raid on the Tionho airport, near Canton, scored many direct hits on hangars and revetment areas, savs General Stiiwell's communique. Japanese' lighters attempted interception. Five Zeros' were shot down and two others were probably destroyed. This American raid followed a Japanese attempted attack on the United States Air Force base in Kwangsi Rrovince. The Japanese attack was intercepted and no bombs were dropped. Two Zeros were destroyed. A Delhi message says that MajorGeneral George Stratmeyer. former Chief cf Staff of the U.S.A.A.F., has been appointed co-ordinating air officer of the American air forces in China. Burma and India.
