Destructive Whirlwind
(P.A.) WHAKATANE. This Day. Traversing the Rangitaika Plains in a wide arc running from Thornton in a south-westerly direction through Edgecumbe, Awakeri and portions of the Te Teko district, a destructive whirlwind of great force developed yesterday at about 1.30 p.m. and caused considerable alarm. It snapped off trees and demolished outbuildings and carried them high in the air before scattering them over a wide area.
