Freyberg Presents Awards To New Zealanders
iOfficial N.Z.E.F. News Service), CAIRO, August 20. The first ceremonial parade of troops under his command since his return from New Zealand was attended by General Freyberg yesterday, when he presented awards won by men of the 6th Infantry Brigade. Some of the awards were for deeds of gallantry dating back as far as (be Greece and Crete campaigns, but the majority were won on the battlefields of Tunisia, The parade was attended by senior officers of the Division, members of the Army Nursing Service, and W.A.A.C. Following are (he awards, the places of the engagements in which they were won being given after each name:— Distinguished Service Order.—Brigadier G. B. Parkinson, Greece and Crete; Lieu-tenant-Colonels D. J. Fountaine, Tebaga Gap; T. B. Morten, El Hamma; J. Connolly, El Hamma. Military Cross.—Captains J. L. Williams, A. w. Barnett, Direlangar; Lieut. N. Buchanan. Direlangar; 2/Lieur. G. J. Thomas. Enfidaville. Distinguished Conduct Medal.—2/Lieuts. C. W. Carter. Ruweisat Ridge; A. C. T. Robertson, Sidi Rezegh. Military Medal.—Lieut. A. H. Empson, evacuation of Greece; 2/Lieuts. M. Tit her, Ruweisat Ridge; R. c. Young, Crete; W.0.l L. Hampton. El Hamma; W. 0.11. P. B. Newt'll, Enfidaville; Staff-Sergt. R, S. Tappin, Enfidaville; Sergeants W. Penman, El Hamma; R. W. Heine, Enfidaville; Corporal A. J. MarcH, El Hamma; L/Cpl. J. P. Scanlon, Miteirya Ridge; Privates B. V. Kitson. Miteirya, Ridge; R. S.
