Defends Chinese Reports
NEW YORK, July 24. The Chinese military spokesman a' Chungking (General Pao Kai), at a Press conference, took exception to Mr. Hanson Baldwin's assertion that the Chinese magnified skirmishes into battles, and that, foreign attaches were unable to find some battles reported in communiques, says the ‘‘New York Times.” General Pao asked: ‘How can there bo such gross fabrication? The China theatre is unique in character. Battles do not assume the proportions of decisive European or Pacific engagements. They are fought on such extended fronts that they cannot bo expected to have a determining effect.” General Pao continued: “Mr. Baldwin’s misinterpretations prove that ho does not possess a true understanding of conditions in China. Many arguments are merely based on rumours.”
