Jap. Diet Insufficient For Occidentals
OTTAWA, July 23 The Defence Department has published a casualty list of 400 Canadian prisoners of war who died in Japanese hands. The prisoners were captured after the fall cf Hongkong on Christmas Day, 1941. Officials said that records showed that many died from food deficiency, and stated that the Red Cross Convention required that a nation holding prisoners must provide the same diet as for their own soldiers, but Japanese soldiers’ diet was inadequate for Occidentals.
