U.S. Ships For Britain
WASHINGTON, July 22. American-built Liberty ships are being transferred to a British registry to overcome the difficulty of shortage of American seamen and surplus of British seamen. It is estimated that 200 ships, aggregating 2,000,000 tons, have already been transferred on a charter basis through Lease-Lend administration. United States law stipulates that ships sailing under the American flag must be officered by American citizens and crewed by at least 25 per cent. Americans.
