Soldiers Entertained At Conversazione
To permit members of the public to meet personnel of the Second N.Z.E.F. on furlough in a social atmosphere, the Whangarei Borough Council lasi night held a conversazione in the Town Hall. Many citizens took advantage of the opportunity and there was also a fair attendance of servicemen on furlough. With the stage beautifully decorated, the hall was hung with bunting and arranged with small tables around which groups could meet and disperse in a friendly informal manner. Much of the success of the evening was due to Mr. R. G. Hosking, who was responsible for conducting the conversazione. Musical items interspersed conversation and supper was served oy members of the Women's Patriotic Activities Sub-Committee who had worked hard in their preparation and who were complimented by the Mayor (Mr. W. Jones.) Items were given by Messrs R. G. Hosking, L. Boot’n, H. Gribble. A. Ford and R. Smith and Misses Ruth and Robina Webster and B. Cleary. Accompanists were Miss Stratford, Mrs Baughan and Mr R. Goodison.
