Flamboyant Smuggling

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. “This is a flagrant case of smuggling and there is the inference that the goods were ' being smuggled foi sale to sly-groggers," said the magistrate (Mr Luxford) when William Joseph Murphy, seaman, 25, was found guilty today on charges of smuggling goods, including whisky, brandy and gin, dress materials, silk hose and blankets, of a total value of £73 from a ship. The charges related to July 2 at New Plymouth. A fine of £75 was imposed and an order made for immediate payment, in default three months’ imprisonment.
