Votes For N.Z. Troops In Britain
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day Preparations are being made to ensure that New Zealanders serving with forces in Britain who are normally resident in the Dominion shall vote at the general election. In the absence of rolls, Mr F. T. Sandford. of New Zealand House, is preparing a list of voters.
The Admiralty, the War Office, and the Air Ministry have given notice to every unit in Britain instructing New Zealanders to register their names with the commanding officer of their unit. Voting will take place in Britain before New Zealand. It is expected that the votes will reach New Zealand House within 12 hours. They will be sent to the Dominion in time to be included in the returns in New Zealand by midnight on polling day.
New Zealanders are scattered throughout Britain, but every effort is being made to see that they are notified how and where to vote. In the main, the responsibility will rest with the individual to make certain he votes. It is unlikely prisoners of war will be able to vote for the Axis would never agree to secrecy of the ballot.
