Argentine Still Happy Hunting Ground For Axis
(Rec. 10.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 28. Axis espionage, sabotage and propaganda is still operating full blast in Argentine, although General Ramirez banned the use of code by Axis diplomats, reports “P.M.’s” Monte Video correspondent. All other communications, telephone, cable and radio, are still open to them. The only effect of the new decree is that obvious code is barred, while messages which appear innocent can be filed and transmitted without restriction. Although there is little official business nowadays, the German Embassy’s staff is as large as ever. The Japanese Embassy employs hundreds behind strongly-guarded doors, safe from democratic spying. Movements of Allied merchantmen are watched and every, effort is made to inform Berlin.
