Stream Of Repatriated Prisoners Of War
MELBOURNE, This Day
Repatriated prisoners of war, comprising sick, wounded and protected personnel from Italy, during the next few months would be in a steady stream, an Australian Army spokesman said here. A group of nine Australians and 14 New Zealanders have arrived here, and others will be exchanged at Smyrna, Turkey, under the British—ltalian agreement. A returning Australian soldier who spent two yeai’s in Crete following evacuation of the Allied forces there said he had talked with German soldiers of the island’s garrison who were pessimistic about the outcome of the war. Money on Crete was valueless and food was exchanged on the barter system.
