Lower Hospital Board Levy In Auckland

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. As a result of the .additional Social Security benefit to hospital boards of 3/daily for each occupied bed. there will be a reduction of £31.056 in the Auckland Board’s current levy on local bodeis. “The extra payment from Social Security increases fees and receipts by £77,640 and reduces net estimated maintenance payments from £442,116 to £364.476,” said the chairman (Mr. Allan J. Moody) at a meeting of the board last night. The effect of this is to reduce the lew on local authorities by £31,056 from '£229,733 to £198,677, and to reduce the subsidy from the Government by £46,584 from £243,384 to £196,800, a total decrease of £77,640. Original estimates for the year ended March 31, 1944, showed a reduction in levy of £9194 and in the subsidy of £23,466, so that tbtal reduction i nthe levy fo rthis year compared with last year would be £40,250, and in subsidy £70,050. It was decided ’ that the estimates be amended by -the amounts detailed and that they be again submitted to the Minister for Health for approval.
