Air Trainees Contribute Large Sum To Loan
(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. A ceremony unique in the history of war loan contributions took place at the Linton air force camp yesterday afternoon, when in the presence of the Minister for Finance (Mr. Nash) and AirCommodore Isitt, Linton’s contribution to the Third Liberty Loan was handed over to the representatives of the Palmerston North loan committee. A sum of no less than £24,190 was subscribed by air force units in Linton in sums ranging from £1 to £IOOO, when 1197 airmen contributed to the total. Thanking air trainees for their contribution, Mr. Nash said to the men: “Surely if you do the fighting we ought to be doing the paying. You have done a magnificent job in making this splendid contribution to the Liberty Loan and it should be an example and inspiration to every citizen of this Dominion.” The Minister addressed a large meeting last night in Palmerston North in furtherance of the Liberty Loan.
