Kaitaia defeated Home Guard by 23 points to six on Saturday. Conditions were good, but the attendance was very moderate, parents evidently not taking the trouble to'see their boys in action in a really splendid exhibition of primary school Rugby which was the curtainraiser. Kaitaia ran all over Home Guard in the first half. Glen Williams, ex-Waikato rep., hooked the ball continuously, to send his backs racing for the try line. Wright and Jameson scored three tries each and Harrison one. Only one of the tries was converted by Hoskin, making the score 23 points to nil at half-time. Home Guard rallied in a surprising manner after the interval, considering that in their ranks were many veterans who had not played for a long time. Kaitaia failed to score again, while Home Guard, keeping Kaitaia on the defensive, scored two tries, one by Len Parker and the other by Wilkinson.—Kaitaia 23, Home Guard 6. Mr. Sowter refereed.
The primary school encounter between two' teams from the Kaitaia school was particularly even, and a draw was the result, six points all. For the "blues” Donaldson and Parker scored, while Richter and Masters secured tries for the "blacks.”
