Northland Itinerary Of Bond Waggon
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. As widespread popular appeal has to be made in connection with the Liberty Loan, this has prompted a revival of the old-time band waggon, with its travelling entertainers. The modern version to tour New Zealand is a bond waggon, a powerful five-ton army truck with the latest electrical gadgets for broadcasting programmes to big crowds, and having a most unmilitary appearance. From excellent talent found in the army and air force, a firstclass team has been enlisted, reinforced by experienced broadcasters and a Liberty LC The S boncf 1 waggon will appear to be rolling along on the familiar air force circles of red, white and blue, as these cover its wheels.
At all centres of the population on its route the bond waggon will stop for business.. A platform will be let down from the side, decorations unfolded, the piano brought into action and a really, bright street entertainment presented. The platform footlights are really 20-pound bombs and a 50G-pound bomb is also carried, on which the public will be invited to stick savings stamps with a guarantee that the missile will be dropped on the Japanese. The bond waggon idea was developed to assist local loan committees in their campaigns and to link in with local demonstrations.
The bond - waggon’s tour this week includes Warkworth, Waipn, Whangarei, Kaikohe, Dargaville and Wellsford in that order. Whangarei Arrangement Assisting to raise funds for the War Loan, the bond waggon, which is visiting nearly every main centre in New Zealand, will arrive in Whangarei tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. to give two performances. The bond waggon is visiting three main Northern centres, Whangarei, Dargaville and Kaikche. The first performance will be from the back of an army truck in Rust Lane and will last for about two hours tomorrow afternoon.
The second performance will take place in the Portland Hall at 7.30 tomorrow night. The manager is Doug Wrathall, a IZB personality of "Chuckles with Jerry” fame. The other artists include Geoff Farrell, a novelty pianist, Stuart Harvey, the finest baritone in the Southern Hemisphere, Rav Trewern. a member of ihe Air Force Band, and Reg Morgan, a IZB singer and accompanist.
