Kaikohe Red Cross Holds Annual Meeting

KAIKOHE. This Day. An average attendance was presided over by Mrs T. Bassett, when the fourth annual meeting of the sub-centre of the Kaikohe Red Cross was held on Tuesday night. In the course of her report, the president touched on the subject of post-war preparation, which she considered to be very necessary. In addition to donations to the X.Z. Disaster Fund, it had been decided that a Bay of Islands Centre Fund be formed, Kaikohe having contributed .£IOO towards it.

Reporting on the year’s activities, Mrs Bassett gave details of knitttng and sewing, prisoners-of-war parcels, comforts for military hospitals and the training of V.A.D.s Help had also been given by the Junior Red Cross in various ways, particularly in knitting and sewing. were tendered to ail those who had given their assistance in many ways throughout the year. The V.A.D. Commandant (Mrs B. Orr) gave an account of (lie work carried out Lectures on sanitation and hygiene, gas and chemical warfare, first aid and home nursing, had been delivered. Stret-cher-bearing, marching and parades had also been held. With the valuable and appreciated assistance of the doctors, matrons and nurses, hospital training had been accomplished. A balance-sheet showing a credit balance of £2llO was presented by the treasurer (Miss J. Robinson), and it. with the report was adopted. Officers The following officers were elected for the year:—President, Mrs T. Bassett; secretary, Mrs D. Alexander; treasurer, Miss .1. Robinson; committee, all reelected with the addition of Mesdames A. J. Edwards and K. Hen wood. Mrs B. Orr was re-elected V.A.D. Commandant with Mrs I'. Dibble superintendent. and Miss M. D’Evves as her assistant. Tito committee was re-elected. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Bassett for her work during the year, and a letter of thanks is to be forwarded to Mrs A. J. Edwards.
