Navigator, Bomb Aimer, Wins D,F.M.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Thursday Tributes to his skill as a navigator and bomb aimer are paid in the citation accompanying the award of the D.F.M. to Sergeant lan Armstrong Blaikie, a member of the R.N.Z.A.F. serving overseas. Official notification of the award has been received from London.
During the last six months, Sergeant Blaikie has been engaged in operational flying and in all aerial assignments displayed coolness and courage, states the citation. It has been in large measure due to his skilful navigation and bomb-aiming that many successes have been achieved. Before the war. Sergeant Blaikie lived in Napier. His father is Mr J. Blaikie, who lives at Greenmeadows, Napier. A landscape gardener in civil life, Sergeant Blaikie was born in Christchurch in 1918 and was educated at Greendale School, Canterbury, and the Boys' High School, Napier. Applying for Air Force service early in 1840, he commenced his New Zealand training as an air observer later in the same year
