U.S. Submarines Lost
WASHINGTON. Feb. 21. The United States submarine Argonaut. a 2710-ton mine-layer, the largest in the United States Navy and possibly in the world, failed to return from patrol operations and is presumed lost.
A United States naval unit operating in the Western Aleutians on February 20. engaged and sank a Japanese supply ship. United States aircraft on February 20 executed a number of bombing attacks on Japanese airfields at Vila and Mtmdu. Large fires were started. Hits were scored on anti-aircraft installations. One United States plane failed to return front these attacks. The United States destroyer announced sunk on February 1 by Japanese air attack south of Savo Island was the Dehaven, of 2100 tons, one of the newest and greatest destroyer types.
