Few U-Boat Victims In South Atlantic

WASHINGTON. Feb. 21

Vice-Admiral Jonas Ingram, commanding the United States South Atlantic naval forces, said the sinkings of Allied shipping tonnage crossing the South Atlantic section, pai rolled by United States warships, was less than 1 per cent. He warned that the submarine menace was still most grave, and the utmost cc-operation, not only between Britain and America but Brazil and other Latin American Allies was necessary for the task of elimination of undersea raiders.

“We attack the enemy whenever we can,” Vice-Admiral Ingram said. “We never had a defensive policy, nor were contended merely with getting shipping past submarine traps. “We are out to eliminate the enemy wherever and whenever possible. Allied surface forces and air strength is constantly'increasing. The Brazilian air force is co-operating fully. “The war is not over yet; as some have seen the thing, it has really just begun."
