TO REMOVE PASPALUM STAINS

Referring to complaints about damage to stockings and frocks, to say nothing of sports iwear, through contact with the gummy substance exuded by the seeding paspalum that invades suburban footpaths at this time of the year, an Auckland woman said that there is a simple and effective way of removing paspalum stains. Last year, she said, she was walking along a suburban footpath when some of the gummy paspalum stuff got on her silk hosiery, and she was surveying the damage with dismay when a man who was passing told her that if she washed or sponged the stains with cold kvater she could get rid of them. She did so, and found it both simple and effective. By experiment she found that soap or hot water seemed to fix the stain, but that by the careful use of cold water she'could fully remove the gum without leaving any mark.
