M.U.1.0.0.F. Xmas Party

The Whangarei M.U.. 1.0.0. F., held its Christmas party on Wednesday evening when many members; and children joined in a happy celebration. It was the children’s night and they were entertained royally with ice-cream, soft drinks and other‘things dear to the juvenile heart. Father Christmas arrived, distributing cakes of chocolate, balloons and flags, while every child had a paper hat. A bountiful supper was served and an impromptu concert held by the children. Five Pepene children combined in pleasing Maori and nakeha items. Other items were: John Houston (recitation), Trevor Smith (song. “Tang o' the Isles”). Barry Smith (recitation) and Miss Hall (Irish Jig). During the evening an appeal was made to lodge members to rally round in the coming year and keep things going' until the boys overseas returned. Thanks was extended to all those who had helped during 1942.

Promotedßottcher, a German-born American soldier, who has become almost a legendary figure along the Buna front, has been promoted from Sergeant to Acting-Captain.
