Gala Day At Victoria Valley

Victoria Valley added over £2G to their Patriotic Fund quota when they held their gala day at the Memorial Hall and grounds on Wednesday. The attendance was good, and the bidding during the auctioning of the produce display showed that those present were more than willing to add their share to the funds.

The vegetable show in the hall showed some fine produce, notable being the silver beet, cabbage and lettuce. The children had snorts and races in age groups so that no child missed a chance of competing. Pillow-fighting added to their enjoyment and to that of the onlookers.

The grown-ups had (heir share of fun. with single ladies and bachelors’ races, high jumping, pole vaulting, and chain stepping. The last-named had many entries and the Winner, Mr. Perry White, made a very fine win, overstepping' the length by only 2Vz inches. W. Switzer came a close second with three inches over.

A cake raffle earned £2/10/6. and was won by Mrs. Harry Foster. She returned it for 'sale, and it added another 26/- to the fund before finally finding a “home.”

A pea guessing competition brought in 19/3, and was won by Mrs. W. J. Dawson. The gate takings amounted to £O/12/6, and the auction realised £ls/1/-. Show awards were as follows: Onions. Mrs. H. Switzer; beetroot and potatoes, Mrs. W. Switzer; rhubarb and cabbage. Mrs. Ross White; lettuce, Mrs. Reece White; silver beet. Claude Switzer; lemons, Mrs. Eddie White; fruit cake, Mrs. W. Switzer; iced sponge cake, Mrs. Petersen; vase of flowers, Mrs. Petersen; hen eggs, Mrs. W. Dawson; duck eggs, Mrs. Harry Thompson; collection of produce, Billy Thompson.
