More than a score of towns and villages have reported incidents as a result of oneiyy planes flying' over the south and south-east coasts yesterday. The raiders attacked from a low level but damage is negligible in most areas. In some places, however, churches, shops and houses were wrecked. Four raiders made four attacks on a school in which 100 girls were holding a Christmas party. Machine-gun bullets rained through the class-room windows and incendiaries set fire to the roof. There were no casualties. Other raiders attacked a train in the Home Counties. The driver, the guards and some passengers were wounded by bullets.
An Air Ministry message states: “Last pight in bad weather aircraft of the Bomber Command laid mines in enemy waters and a small force attacked targets in north-west Germany. During these operations an M.E. 110 was destroyed. One of our aircraft is missing. Bomber Command Mosquitoes attacked railway targets in the Low Countries this afternoon.
