Bengal Ambassadors Of The Real Empire
(Received 12 Noon) (8.0. W.) RUGBY, December 16. The impression created in the whole area recently struck by the cyclone in Bengal, by the work of troops who helped to rescue the inhabitants from the flooding caused by a tidal wave, is described as tremendous and likely to become legendary. Eleven thousand persons lost their lives. The famous Black Watch did especially fine work in restoring communications so that food, medical supplies and aid could be rushed to the area.
The troops also rescued scores of people and earned the gratitude, and even the reverence, of the natives by saving cows in danger of being drowned. Twelve were arrested and one injured by a shot when police dispersed demonstrators at Ahmadabad.
