Special Visitors To Kaitaia Ingleside

The Kaitaia Scottish Society’s monthiv Ingleside on Saturday was of special importance, for distinguished visitors from Dargaville were present. Mr. W. Montgomery, Chief of the Northern Wairoa Ccottish Society and president of the Piping and Dancing Association, Mr. Duncan, secretary of the association, PipeMajor D. W. Rae, Mr. Alan Kerr. Mr. S. Garven and Miss Joyce Montgomery travelled to the Far North and gave added interest to the gathering. The piping in of Chief Morrison and the guests by Pipe-Major Rae opened the evening and this was followed by a community sing led by Mr. J. Cowie. Musical items were interspersed with dancing. Mrs. Begley, Lieutenant Rankin and Mr. J. Parker sang, Mrs, Stone played a pianoforte solo and Master Panther gave a mouth-organ solo. Mrs. Stone and Miss K. Parker played the accompaniments to the songs, and Pipe-Major Rae provided pipe music for the Scottish dancing. Mr. Eric Hansen, with his accordion, provided dance music. * An excellently executed exhibition sword dance by Miss Montgomery was thoroughly appreciated ,by the audience. Local girls who danced the Seantviubhas and Highland Fling were congratulatd by Pipe-Major Rae. A talk on Scotland’s patron saint by the Rev. Wilde was listened to enthusiastically. After supper, Chief Montgomery stressed the necessity for keeping the Scottish movement alive during the present difficult times. He urged them to increase the membership wherever they could, and to keep up their interest in Scottish dancing.

A real Scots’ gathering, complete with pipes, ended with the singing of the National Anthem and "Auld Lang Syne.”
