Mrs. E. Tolerton
OBITUARY
In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Tolertori at her home, Mt. Eden, Auckland, there passes one of the last few remaining Northland pioneers. Mrs. Toler ton came out to this country with her parents 72 years ago from Ontario, Canada. She was then a girl 12 years of age. They landed in Auckland about the year 1870 and, after a short stay, went to Kerikeri. From there they trekked through bush tracks on bullock drays to Okaihnu, where her parents had taken up land, then in heavy standing bush. Mrs. Tolerton experienced all the hardships of the early pioneers. Mrs. Tolerton twice married. She wedded first the late John Donaldson, of Okaihau, who a few years later was killed while bush felling at Okaihau. Twelve years later she married the late George Tolerton, of Okaihau, who predeceased her 31 years ago. Since then Mrs. Tolerton has made her home at Mt. Eden. She is survived by three children of her first marriage. They are Mrs. M. E. Melville, of Mt. Eden, Mr. S. A. Donaldson (Whangarei) and Mr. J. H. Donaldson (Okaihau). There are 14 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
