Australia Far Outspends Budget

CANBERRA, June 10. With only a month to go before the end of the financial year. Australia's war expenditure is £44,636,000 above the Budget. Expenditure on the war, defence and munitions for the 11 months was £266.121.000. Announcing' a £50.000 additional yearly grant to the National Fitness Council for improving the physical fitness of school-children, the Federal Minister for Health (Mr. Holloway) said the money would be mainly spent on improving the fitness of boys in their leaving year. Thus, if the war continued a few more years so that it became necessary to call on boys now at school to act as reinforcements, they would be physically fit. The previous grant to the Fitness Council was £20.000 per year.
