Filling Local Body Vacancies In Wartime
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Regulations were issued today for the purpose of avoiding the holding of local body elections during the war by requiring local authorities to appoint a qualified person to fill such vacancies. The Minister for . Affairs CMr Farry) stated that where a vacancy occurred in the office of Mayor of borough, an election would be required in the normal way. Failing an appointment to a vacant seat on a local body being made within two months, provision is made for the Governor-General to make an appointment.
