Regulations were issued today for the purpose of avoiding the holding of local body elections during the war by requiring local authorities to appoint a qualified person to fill such vacancies. The Minister for . Affairs CMr Farry) stated that where a vacancy occurred in the office of Mayor of borough, an election would be required in the normal way.
