Fine Cup Trials At Ellerslie

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day Lou Rosa, who shares favouritism with Beau Leon for the Auckland Cup, put up a line cup trial this morning, when the son of ]• oxLridge beat three other cup candidates over a round on the course preper. on which the poles were 35ft out. The track was in first class order. Associated in the gallop were Volifox, Yogi and Wardress.

Volifox went out to make the pace and was about four lengths clear going along the back. Lou Rosa commenced to move up at the five-furlong post and he was with Volifox at the turn. He then came on to beat her by about a length. Yogi was three lengths away, clear of Wardress. The winner ran the full distance in 2.3 4-5, the last seven in 1.31 1-5 and the final half mile in 52. Lou Rosa finished exceptionally well. The Champ, who will be favourite for the Queen’s Plate, and Piastre, a cup candidate, were on terms at the end of a mile run in 1.42 3-5, the last seven in 1.30 3-5. The Champ did his work well, although Piastre is said to be a poor track horse.

Celebrity in Fine Form

An exceptionally good sprint was credited to Celebrity, who reeled off five furlongs in 1.2 4-5. The half sister to Beau Pere was running out a bit down the straight, and her gallop was a fine effort. The best half-mile was that of Dominate and Nizam, who beat Indian Sign in 49 2-5. Dominate revealed great dash, although Nizam, who had a good deal the worst of the weights, was doing his work well at the end. Night Pilot and Phaleron were companions over a mile run in 1.45 1-5, the first half in 51 4-5, and there was little between them at the.end. Premature Finishes Well

The Railway Handicap candidate. Premature, left six furlongs behind in 1.16 4-5, running the first three in 36 4-5, and she came home very solidly. Rakanui was never off the bit throughout seven furlongs in 1.31 4-5.

Sunny Knight finished well clear of Black Majesty at the end of five furlongs, which occupied 1.3 4-5. Sunny Knight gave the impression that he could have dpne better. The Great Northern Derby favourite, Battledress, was too good for Tavoy at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 4-5, the first two. furlongs taking 24 4-5. Hinepo disclosed fine speed when traversing five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. In a similar task, the two-year-olds Orakau and Transcend registered the same time, with little between them.
