Urges Patience Re News Of Wounded
[Per Press Association.—Copyright] WELLINGTON, This Day
“I sympathise with the natural anxiety of next-of-kin to obtain progress reports regarding wounded soldiers and appreciate the desire tc obtain information additional to that provided in the official casualty reports.” said the Minister for Defence (Mr. Jones) yesterday, ‘‘but there ir, so much congestion on the cable system and Base Records is so fully occupied notifying casualties that I am reluctantly compelled to urge patience in applying for further information.” Mr. Jones added that usually the nature of wounds could not be known until a satisfactory diagnosis was made after a soldier's admission to hospital, and this information was not available for a week or two after the casualty was reported from the field. Generally, if no further communication was received it could be assumed the soldier was in no immediate danger. The Minister said that in sending letters and other mail to wounded soldiers the ordinary address should be used.
