Union Representation In Australian War Organisations

(Rec. 2 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Prime Minister (Mr. Curtin), has received a letter from Union secretaries requesting him to arrange a conference with the Labour delegates with the object of trying to achieve closer unity in the war effort. The letter assures the Government that the Labour movement can give vital help, providing its representatives get representation on boards and organisations controlling the war effort. Following representations by local miners’ officials and the coal fields parliamentary representatives, Mr. Curtin announced that it was his intention to reconstitute the Coal Commission. The commission will now comprise three, two being representatives of the miners and mine owners respectively, with probably Mr. Migull remaining as chairman.
