Mangakahia Power Guarantee Deficit
The Mangakahia group is still £lO2/10/- deficient in its electricpower guarantees. I This position was revealed in the report submitted to the North Auckland Electric-power Board at its monthly meeting in Dargaville yesterday by the engineer (Mr. T. R. Overton). From indications it would be quite sound to proceed with reticulation as far as Parakao, stated the engineer. The area beyond that place was responsible for the total deficiency and many of the settlers apparently would not raise their guarantees or consumptive capacity. The settlers on the first section of the group, he considered, were anxious to obtain electricity. The chairman (Mr. J. A. McLean) said that one of the settlers who had been actively interested in raising the guarantees and in the reticulation of the area had informed him that it was expected the full guarantee would be reached in a few days. The last report from him had staled that the guarantee was now only £25 short, and he had asked that the question should be held over as he was sure the deficit would be realised shortly. To that end the chairman moved that authority for the work should be held over until the next meeting. Seconding the motion Mr. F. Elliott said that surely such a small amount would be realised without any great difficulty. The engineer pointed out that the question should "be dealt with as quickly as possible because of the necessity of getting the authority of the electricity controller to proceed with the work. After further discussion the board decided to receive and adopt the engineer’s report subject to such modification as the engineer thought fit.
