Little Canning Meat In 60 Lb. Ewe

Only ton pounds or 121 b of meat suitable for canning was provided by a GOlb ewe, said the Minister for Marketing (Mr. Barclay) in an interview in Hastings. He added that this fact was not generally realised and was one of the difficulties fn the way of the Government purchasing overweight ewes. He said the Government would incur a heavy loss if it attempted to deal with all the meat offering. The Government had purchased the normal output of produce this year, but it was abnormal supplies coming forward that had caused difficulties. Mr. Barclay also referred to the demand from Britain for more and more cheese from New Zealand. He emphasised the need for increasing the production of this commodity as much as possible.
