Europe Has Enough Food For Current Rationing
(Received 2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 26. In spite of a definite shortage of some essential commodities and- food supplies. Europe has sufficient to maintain current rationing, states a Department of Agriculture report. Germany’s food problem does not resemble that of 1914-18. The present war has not yet seriously interfered with her agricultural production. Rations are practically unchanged in Germany because of her vast reserves before the war and the spoils from conquered countries. The situation in Italy is much less favourable. Army demands are depleting civilian reserves. Moreover, large quantities of Vital Italian foodstuffs were exported to Germany. Conditions in. France. Belgium, Norway and the Netherlands are unfavourable, all having suffered by German requisitioning.
