Mr. L. Spitz

By the death, at Auckland, on May 24, of Mr. L. Spitz, there has passed away another old identity in the Far North. Mr. Spitz, or “Louis,” as he was usually known, was 70 years of age. He came to New Zealand as a young man, and started business with his brother Barney in the North, later settling down on his own, marrying and raising his family in the “Winterless” North. He was well known, and liked by all who came in contact with him. He enjoyed a reputation for honesty and fair dealing, with both pakeha and Maori. In recent months he had suffered from heart attacks, which eventually caused his death. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. Goldberg, of Melbourne, and three sons—Mr. C. Spitz, Kaitaia; Mr. S. Spitz, Tauranga, and Mr. D. Spitz, Auckland.
