Strengthen Fire Fighting Services
LONDON, May 25.
Interesting figures relating to the organisation of fire services were given by the Minister of Home Security (Mr. Morrison) today.
He said that as the result of decisions already taken, in addition to the increased strength of 8000 men already .announced, a further 8000 would’ be called up at the end of J[une.
“This means a- growth of something like 20 per cent.,” he said. “We have ordered and are now issuing just on £1,000,000 worth of towing vehicles, large quantities of heavy pumps and other equipment. In all, the expansion actually under way, quite apart from other great changes which the national reorganisation may bring, involves additional expenditure of about £6,Q00,000, bringing the total annual cost of the fire-fighting services to about £27,000,000.”
