New Council in Whangarei Takes Office

Oath cf office was taken by the Mayor of Whangarei (Mr W. Jones) and members of the borough council at a statutory meeting on Saturday evening.

Congratulations were offered by the Mayor to the former members of the council who were returned and to new members.- The new councillors, he felt sure, would find work on the council interesting, sometimes worrying, but always possible of solution by combined thought and wisdom. The Mayor again advocated, as on similar occasions in the past, that each councillor should put forward his own opinion irrespective of those passed by other councillors. Questions under discussion could then be thrashed out, the Mayor and town clerk (Mr L. O. Hall) assisting by giving all the facts at their disposal.
