North-West Mounted Police At The Plaza
AMUSEMENTS
A capacity house was given a great treat on Saturday evening, when the much heralded “North-West Mounted Police,” was screened at the Plaza. This picture has been described as a triumph for Cecil de Mille, and there will be none to question the description. Starring Gary Cooper and Madeleine Carroll, and boasting a long list of stars, including Paulette Goddard, Preston Foster, Robert Preston, Akim Tamiroff, Lynne Overman, George Bancroft and Lon Chaney, jnr., “North-West Mounted Police” is a masterpiece in technicolour. The story is set in the romantic period when the half-breeds of Canada threatened to bring civil war to the Great Dominion in 1885. Led by a crime-stained individual, who had become possessed of a Gatling gun, the half-breeds relied upon the co-opera-lion of the Indians, whose fidelity was put to the test. The North-West Police, in their scarlet coats, alone stood as a barrier between the rebels and constitutional government. The picture is vibrant with sensation from the outset, and there is no let-up until the fade-out, which is of an unexpected character. Thrilling incidents mark each reel of the film, as the police, aided by an equally gallant Texas ranger, set about quelling the inshrrection. Intertwined with the movement are two love themes, upon one of which the fate of the "police and the rebels depends.
