Except for one or two spasms of brilliance, they were completely overshadowed and dazzled by the clever short-passing of their opponents. From the start Otaika forced the play and had Kara bottled in their own 25. Otaika opened, the score when Steedman pushed one in. Only good goal-keeping by Kara was keeping the score down. Forcing ■ a long corner Otaika looked dangerous but Kara cleared well and Gil Shepherd, after a magnificent solo run, evened the score. Clever passing by Otaika put them in the lead when Howie passed to N. Johnson, who made no mistake, Rushing again, Kelly dribbled right through to pass to Johnson, who scored his second goal.—Otaika 3, Kara 1. Half-time came without alteration. On resumption, Otaika charged through, Johnson missing, but not to be denied he came again and scored. Kara momentarily took charge and T. Attwood sent in a beauty which gave the opposition no chance. —Otaika 4, Kara 2

Kara had now definitely wakened up, but lacked the necessary finish. Gil Shepherd ran right through on his own but over-ran the ball at the critical stage, Otaika clearing. Attacking again Kara had a chance when Gil lost his stick as he was about to shoot and Ctaika fought back. A great shot at goal was well saved by the goalie, who, unfortuntely gave “sticks.” From the resultant penalty bully, Johnson made his total four. In a last desperate rush Gil Shepherd scored for Kara and a great game ended.—Otaika 5, Kara 3. Messrs. J. R. Johnson and B. R. Woolford controlled the game.

MANGAPAI AGAIN Showing better ball control than their vis-a-vis. Mangapai had little difficulty in winning two points from Springfield. The latter team indulged in too much wild hitting From the commencement Mangapai v/asted no time in getting in to it, and forced a hot pace, but Franklin, Springfield’s goalie was equal to the occasion. However. 10 minutes from the start the veteran Phil Carter netted a beauty.—Mangapai 1, Springfield 0. Stung by this setback, Springfield woke up, but half-time came with no more goals. After the spell, Mangapai charged and Phil Carter scored his second goal. Try as they might Springfield could do nothing right and shortly after W. Ormondy twice increased Mangapai’s lead.

Messrs G. A. R. McKoy and J. J Ashcroft controlled this game.
