Buckley Is North Auckland Golf Champion
Dr. H. F. Buckley Avon the North Auckland championship this afternoon, defeating W. J. Glanville 2 up. Although finalist on many occasions, it Avas Dr. Buckley's first Avin since 1932. The cards Avere: —
Buckley: (Out) 4,4, 5,3, 4,5, 5,5, 5—40; (In) 4,4, 4,2, 5,5, 4,5, 3—36; total, 76. Glanville: (Out) 5,5, 6,4, 3,5, 5, 5. 4—42; (In) 4,4, 4,3, 5. 4,4, 4, 4—36; total, 78. Dr. Buckley Avon the first four holes, and at the turn Avas 2 up. He Avas dormy 3 and went to Avin at the last hole.
Weston Wins Handicap
In the final of the North Auckland handicap, S. J. Weston (9) beat R. J. Crosby (11), 5 and 3. Weston was 1 up at the turn, and, playing more consistent golf, Avas never seriously challenged. His only major mistake was when he lost a ball in the trees at the sev'enth. The semi-finals this morning resulted: Dr. Buckley beat N. Izzard, 2 and 1; W. J. Glanville beat N. Hockin, 3 arid 2. Handicap semi-finals: R. J. Crosby beat H. W..Bice, 4 and 3; S. J. Weston beat A. W. KirkAvood, 1 up. Group Trials No. 1: Thomson beat Bgvins, 5 and 4; No. 2: G. W. Harrison beat Kean Clarke, 4 and 3: No. 3: A. R. Thurston beat A. J. Murdoch at the 18th. Special Groups No. 1: A. G. Sheen beat D. McLeod. 2 up; R. D. Johnson beat J. K. Earle. 1 up. No. 2; R. H. Harrison beat R. G. Tappenden, 4 and 3; H. Wilson beat J. ShaAV, 5 and 4. Play in Champ. Semi-finals N. Izzard, the young Northern Wairoa player, proved his mettle in fully extending Dr. Buckley. He Avas 2 up at the turn, but in the closing stages Buckley unfolded a brilliant series of three birdies, his score from the 15th being 3,3, 4, 3. Izzard did not duff a drive all morning. Hockin, of Whakapara, and formerly of Titirangi, gave Glanville an interesting match. A birdie at the 3rd enabled him to square the holes, and he took the lead Ayith a three at the fourth. At the seventh he scored a birdie three to become one up. GlanArille scored a birdie at the dog leg, Avhere Hockin was treed, and a par three at the ninth made him 1 up at the turn. At the 11th both Glanville (uphill) and Hockin (downhill) sank a 30footer for a pretty half. Glanville finished in his most consistent strain, while Hockin lost touch with his driver, the game ending with a half at the 16th. Glanville went out in 38 and, completing his round, shot a 75.
Morning’s Stableford This morning’s Stableford was won by H. Wilson, 37, after a count back from T. Buckley and J. S. Day. Title-Holder Beaten Yesterday The links were in splendid playing order for the North Auckland golf championship yesterday aftei-noon, when the second round of both the championship and handicap event was decided. Outstanding feature of the championship play was the defeat of the title-holder, R. B. Carr (Titirangi) by H. F. Buckley (Whangarei) in the second round, 3 and 2. Buckley was last year’s runner-up. The afternoon’s medal round was won by T. Buckley with a net of 70. Other good scores were: J. H. Earle and W. A. Christiansen 71 each, and A. G. Sheen 72. Results of play yesterday afternoon were: Championship. Second round: H. F. Buckley beat R. B. Carr, 3 and 2; N. Izzard beat L. B. Stuart, 1 up; W., Hockin beat T. Pain, 4 and 3; W. J.
