Martinique Prepares For US. Attack

NEW YORK, May 22.

Martinique, the French island in the West Indies, is reported to be prepared to resist an attack by the United States. The “New York Times” says that Washington sources are in possession of information that the defences of Dakar are being rapidly strengthened The paper’s corresponderit at Panama says Martinique is becoming the propaganda centre of Latin America for the distribution from Vichy of information that aids- the Axis Powers. Funds are not likely to be available for this work from the Vichy Government, and the question therefore arises whether they are furnished by Germany or are part of the “frozen” French funds which the United States released for relief purposes in Martinique.
