-NATIONALIST CHIEF [Per Press Association. —Copvright] WELLINGTON, This Day. Contending that Labour’s policy had brought about a dulling of enterprise and energy and had not been conducive (to the building of greatness in a people, the Dominion president of the National Party (Mr A. Gordon), in an address to the annual conference of the party, emphasised the need for a policy that would help to build character and encourage people to stand on their own feet, i The conference was attended by about 300 delegates, including the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland) and other members of Parliament. Mr Gordon said the people had every right to judge the results of all administrations by the touchstone of whether its acts had been helpful of otherwise to the development of per- j sonality and character, and he believ- i ed that by that touchstone Labour stood condemned. The National Party’s task, he said, was to frame a philosophy based on purely moi-al and spiritual values which would assist in the development of character and help every one of the people to stand on their own feet.
