Offer To Build Slips At Newcastle Yards
(Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Following the fresh disclosure that a shipbuilding firm had offered to lease Walsh Island, Newcastle, for shipbuilding, which was formerly carried on there, the Premier (Mr A. Mair), has now announced that such an offer has been received from Hadfield’s, Ltd., who require the New South Wales Government to spend £IOO,OOO in putting the yards in order.
Mr Mair said the offer had been passed on to the Minister for the Navy, who was placing it before Cabinet.
