Rodney Competing In Country Week Tournament

[Special to “Northern Advocate”) AUCKLAND, This Day.

Under the control of the Auckland Cricket Association the annual Country Week tournament for the Hellaby Shield opened yesterday and will be continued during the holiday period. Considering that many country players were not accustomed to turf wickets, the standai*d of play was high. Rodney was the only Northland team to compete. Scores: Pukekohe v. Rodney.—Pukekohe in the first innings made 38 (Metge 19, Stoupe 15, Walsham 21; R. Dunning 8 for 41), and in the second innings declared with 94 runs for four wickets (Vallance 51, Riddles 13). In the first innings, Rodney compiled 67 (W. Dunning 27, Guy 15, Gush 11; Johnson took 5 for 33), and in the secpnd innings 101 for 2 wickets (R. Dunning 17, W. Dunning 39. Guy 33). but failed to make the necessary runs before the stumps were drawn, to lose on the first innings. I
