Home Guard At Umawera
The biggest attendance seen at a meeting in the hall for some considerable time characterised the meeting called at Umawera to discuss the formation of a Home Guard in that centre. All eligible joined up on the spot. Altogether well over 20 men offered their services here. Hokianga Farmers Active. “That this branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union is of the opinicn that a conference of local bodies and other organisations in the Hokianga should be called immediately with the object of forming a Home Guard.” Such was the text of a resolution carried at the monthly meeting of the Kohukohu Farmers' Union held at Kohukobu recently. A public meeting, for the purpose of forming a unit, will be held in the Kohukohu town hall on Thursday evening next. Unit Formed at Takahue. A well-attended meeting was held in the Takahue hall on Wednesday evening to discuss the formation of a Home Guard. Mr J. Stewart was chairman and the speaker was Mr W. Hoskin. Twenty-one members enrolled, and it is hoped that others will join to form a platoon, so that training will be in the district.
