Whangarei Launch, Crew Missing
Failure of a Whangarei launch to return to its moorings was reported this morning, but it is believed it is Sheltering. With the owner, Mr Leslie Hoey, Mr Halsey Beehre, Mr Leslie Dent and another man on board, the Sea De’il left Whangarei at midday on Saturday for a week-end down the Whangarei Harbour, and anxiety was felt when the boat failed to return last evening. The Sea De’il was seen off the Hen and Chickens yesterday afternoon, when the crew was fishing, by Mr P. Mason in the launch Sceptre. A heavy sea was rising, and it is presumed the Sea De’il had to run for shelter.
The police have been notified, and all possible investigations are being made.
