£Special to '‘Northern Advocate ” 3 KAIKOHE, This Day.
With Mrs. G. Johnston, of Waima, presiding, the half-yearly council meeting of the Bay of Islands Federatoin was held at Kerikeri recently. It was resolved: “That in view of the Chemists’ Association providing an ambulance for soldiers, the matter of W.I. members supplying one would be re-opened.” Mrs. W. Moor, of Kaikohe, read the treasurer’s report, which showed a credit balance of £l4/16/6. The following remits were passed: “That the Bible in schools be part of the daily school curriculum” (Haeremai Group); “that the Institutes approach the Government re having a list of orphan boys on service overseas, so that individual parcels may be sent to them” (Te Ahu Ahu); “that the Government be asked to provide sleepers at second class rates on the express” (Kaikohe branch); “that each federation be asked to institute a blanket and quilt drive for British air-raid victims, and shipping offices approached re fr,ee transport of same” (Kerikeri).
Mrs. G. Johnston was elected to be Say of slands representative at the next Dominion Council meeting. A letter was read by the federation secretary (Mrs. Jones, of Kerikeri) on adult education, n the absence of Mr. Higgins, W.E.A. organiser, Mrs. W. H. Moor explained that tlie idea was to start weekly classes of 12, some of the subjects offering being gardening, drama and textiles. Mesdames Johnston and Moor,were elected to form part of a committee to deal witli the matter.
An entertaining play was presented by the Kerikeri drama circle, followed by an instructive demonstration by Mrs. Kelly, of Moerewa, on floral decorations and quick methods of making wreaths.
A varied collection of garments presented by the different branches are to be sent to the distressed in England.
